Payment Options & Concerns

What are the payment options available?

One of the biggest concerns that I come across in this business is whether it is safe to make a large purchase such as a kitchen or bedroom with an independent retailer as opposed to one of the national companies.

"What if you go out of business before I receive my kitchen?" is a question I've been asked a number of times.

Unfortunately, small businesses do go under, but the same can be said for large, national and international businesses. Let me put your mind at ease so you can be sure that choosing Carman Hill for your project is the safe option.

Firstly, as the company is currently only me, and I don't need a showroom, I don't owe any money. I have a few monthly payments to make plus my wages, unlike national companies that often have huge debts. If you read the next section you'll see that the most you stand to lose is your deposit, and even that can be protected as you'll see below.

The second reason that your money is safe is that I don't take full payment straight away. I ask for a 25% deposit to secure your order, then I don't take the balance until a week before delivery. I order and pay for everything from my suppliers up front. The products are then delivered to me and once everything has arrived I'll arrange a delivery to you once I receive the balance payment. You are welcome to see the goods before you make that payment.

I like this system as I believe it protects both parties. You know that everything you've paid for is physically available and ready for installation, and I know that I can pay myself and my direct debits.

Finally, for further protection, you can pay part, or all of your deposit on a credit card. This protects your entire purchase from a number of things, including a company going bust.

"Section 75 means that if you pay for something costing over £100 and less than £30,000 on credit, the lender's equally liable (along with the retailer) if something goes wrong."

What other payment options do I offer?

Bank transfer is my preferred choice, as I get charged for card payments and cash deposits. That being said, I am more than happy to take card and cash. I don't offer a discount for cash and the amount must be under the current money laundering limit.

Apple and Android payments are also accepted and work the same as card payments.

Unfortunately, I don't offer finance options as the charges would need to be added to my prices and I want to give you the best products at the right price. Did you know that Interest Free Credit providers can charge the retailer as much as 18% of the order value, so retailers build those charges into their prices?
